The Chauffeur Knowledge Base

Chauffeur travel is oddly badly documented. The information that would actually help someone choose — how a quotation is built, why one airport is harder than another, what a saloon really carries, how a wedding morning is sequenced — is mostly locked in the heads of the people who do the work.

This is our attempt to write it down. Every page here answers one question, puts the answer near the top, and is willing to tell you when a chauffeur is not what you need. There are no prices anywhere, because we do not work from a rate card and inventing one would be dishonest.

Nothing here requires you to book anything. If it saves you a phone call, it has done its job.

The journal is organised around the questions people actually ask before booking. There are London pieces on neighbourhoods, dining and the practicalities of moving around the centre; airport guides covering terminals and timing; private aviation notes; a run through the British season; escapes and touring routes across the country; and a set of pieces on choosing between chauffeur-driven cars when the specifications all begin to sound alike.

None of it is written to sell a particular booking. A guide that tells you a journey is better by train, or that a smaller car is the sensible choice, is more useful than one that does not, and we would rather be trusted than agreed with. Where something is a matter of opinion it is written as opinion, and where a timing is variable it is described as variable rather than rounded down.

Read alongside the service pages, the journal is meant to make an enquiry shorter rather than longer. By the time you send a message you should already know roughly what shape of booking you want, which car suits it and what to mention: the date, the timings, both addresses, passenger and luggage numbers, and any flight number, which lets us plan around the published schedule.
