Every so often a client asks whether the longest saloon we arrange also carries the most luggage, and the answer is a firm no. All of the Maybach's additional length sits between the axles, which is where the passengers are. Behind the rear axle, where the boot lives, the car is essentially the same as the flagship it is built from.
So the sensible way to think about a Maybach is as a two-passenger vehicle with two-passenger luggage. That suits its typical use perfectly, because it is booked for private aviation transfers, VIP arrivals and long business journeys rather than family holidays. Trouble only arises when someone assumes the boot has grown to match the cabin.
The reliable capacity
Two large checked cases plus two cabin bags is the working figure, and it goes in cleanly. The floor takes the large cases flat, and the smaller bags sit alongside or on top without pressure on the lid. Substituting soft holdalls for rigid cabin cases always improves matters, because they fill the irregular corners a hard shell cannot reach.
Three medium cases and a suit carrier is the other combination we see frequently, and it is a better shape than two very large cases if you have the choice when packing. It also loads and unloads faster, which matters when the car is holding a set-down bay at a terminal or standing outside a private terminal gate.
Why it is not larger
Extending a car is done by lengthening the wheelbase, since that is where cabin space comes from and where the ride benefit comes from too. The rear overhang, which determines boot volume, stays broadly as it was. This is true of every extended luxury saloon, not just this one, and it is why long-wheelbase cars rarely quote a bigger boot figure.
Plug-in hybrid versions reduce the space further, since a battery pack occupies part of the floor. Two large cases usually still fit, but the spare margin disappears and taller soft bags no longer sit neatly on top. If you are travelling with a full load, tell us and we will assign a vehicle without that limitation where one is available.

How the car is usually used
In practice the luggage limit rarely bites, because of what a Maybach is booked for. These are the journeys that make up the majority of our Maybach work, and none of them involves a full family holiday load.
- Private aviation transfers where bags are handled airside separately
- Executive collections from a hotel to a meeting with hand luggage only
- Long business journeys where the passenger works or sleeps en route
- Guest and dignitary arrivals with a small quantity of cases
- Overnight trips where a single case and a suit carrier travel per person
- Evening occasions where nothing is carried beyond a coat and a bag
The cabin absorbs the overflow
One genuine advantage of a car designed around two rear passengers is that the rest of the cabin is empty and available. The front passenger seat, when it is not being used for a footrest, takes a briefcase, a laptop bag and a coat comfortably. The rear centre console, on cars that have one, holds documents and personal items.
This is not a solution for suitcases and should not be treated as one. Nothing heavy or hard travels loose in the cabin, and a good chauffeur will decline to stack cases on a seat. But for the soft, light, frequently needed items it means the boot is not carrying anything it does not need to.
Loads that need another vehicle
The list below is where a Maybach stops being the right tool. In each case a luxury MPV takes the whole load without effort, and for a group we would usually suggest the Maybach for the principal passenger with an MPV following, rather than trying to compress everything into one car.
- Three or more large checked cases
- Any golf, ski or shooting equipment whatsoever
- A full pushchair travel system alongside holiday luggage
- Exhibition materials, artwork or anything requiring an upright load
- Four passengers each with checked baggage
- Bulk deliveries of flowers, gifts or hospitality supplies
Arranging the detail
Send the luggage list at the enquiry stage and we will confirm in writing whether the car suits it. Where a principal passenger wants the Maybach and the party has heavy bags, a second vehicle carrying luggage and colleagues is a common and entirely sensible arrangement, and it usually improves the experience for everyone.
Maybach cars are arranged from our own vehicles and from a vetted network of professional chauffeur operators. Availability is genuinely limited compared with mainstream saloons, and model, colour and specification are confirmed at the point of booking. Enquire early over WhatsApp or by email if the date is fixed.
