Most fleets get described in classes, and a class tells you next to nothing about how a journey actually feels. We describe ours by name instead. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the quiet, unfussy choice for one passenger with a tight schedule to keep. The S-Class and the fully electric BMW i7 are the flagship saloons, designed around that rear seat and around the hours you will sit in it. The V-Class seats six people in separate armchairs, each with a case alongside, which settles the problem no saloon can.

Higher up are the cars chosen because of the occasion rather than the trip. The Mercedes-Maybach stretches the S-Class, handing every inch of that added length straight to the rear compartment. The Rolls-Royce Ghost is the restrained one, the Phantom the car that ends up in every photograph taken, and the Cullinan the one that arrives with real presence at the far end of a long gravel drive, as will the Range Rover Autobiography. A wedding is not a transfer. Three or four movements make it up, with long deliberate gaps sitting between them, and most of the car's value lies in the waiting: outside the house while a final photograph gets taken, outside the church while somebody hunts down the confetti, outside the reception while a coat is fetched. We quote the whole day as one arrangement. The car is dressed in your colours, and one chauffeur stays with you from the first collection through to the last.

That same logic holds good across the rest of the year. The event season (Ascot, Wimbledon, Goodwood, the opera, a milestone dinner) rewards a car waiting at the door as you come out, rather than one parked forty minutes away. Where a party runs beyond six people, two vehicles travel in convoy on a single briefing with one point of contact, which is how most event bookings are actually shaped.

Our most rewarding work runs across several days at a time. Private chauffeur-driven tours through the Cotswolds, Oxford and Bath, a week spent moving between country houses, a Scottish itinerary finishing somewhere north of Edinburgh. Shorter long-distance journeys work on that same principle, and set against the train they win a straight comparison more often than people expect. Door to door.
