The M11 decides everything about Stansted. Out of central London the run is simple enough once the North Circular is behind you, yet the stretch past Harlow, and the junction just below Bishop's Stortford, can crawl at peak hours. We pick a collection time that has already accounted for that instead of finding out halfway there. Your chauffeur is parked outside your address, not pulling up as you turn the key in the front door.
Just the one passenger terminal here, designed by Norman Foster and unusually easy to read once you are inside, with a single set-down area right outside the entrance. Your chauffeur draws up at the door, lifts the cases out and hands them over, which turns check-in into a short walk rather than a trek across tarmac. On the return leg, your chauffeur is already in the arrivals hall with a name board and carries the luggage the short distance out to the car. Book with the flight number attached and the pickup is planned around the published schedule and the clearance time Stansted usually takes. Plenty of arrivals here land late in the evening. We treat those as routine rather than as some awkward exception.
Much of our Stansted work points towards Cambridge: parents over for a weekend, guests coming in for a college dinner, families making their way home to the villages of north Essex and Suffolk. The remainder runs the opposite way, into London. Newmarket, Saffron Walden and Chelmsford are all comfortable drives from the terminal, and once the motorway is behind you the roads through the Essex countryside go quiet.

What the M11 dictates
The M11 decides nearly everything about a Stansted journey. Out of London the run leaves the North Circular and climbs through Essex to junction 8, where the airport spur and the A120 meet at roundabouts that back up far more readily than the motorway ever does. Worst of it tends to be northbound on a weekday morning and southbound in the late afternoon, plus the first Friday of a school holiday, on which we simply start earlier.
One passenger terminal, one set-down area straight outside the entrance, and a charge for stopping there; the walk from car door to check-in is genuinely short, which cannot be said of the less expensive drop-off further out. Coaches use that same forecourt in numbers, so it can be slow to work through at peak times. Either way, your chauffeur takes care of the cases and the loading.
Arriving passengers come out into a single hall that opens directly onto the forecourt, so nobody hunts between buildings. From touchdown to that point, allow roughly half an hour on a short European flight, and noticeably more when several aircraft land inside a few minutes of each other, which happens often in the evening. Passport control and reclaim are the two variables. We build a waiting allowance around both rather than around the optimistic case.

Warn us as far ahead as the trip permits, above all for half-term Saturdays, the fortnight either side of Easter and the run-up to Christmas, when larger vehicles are spoken for well in advance. Quiet midweek dates through autumn and winter behave altogether differently, and a car can frequently be arranged inside a day or two.
Earliest departures ordinarily mean collecting you while it is still dark, which sounds miserable and is in truth the calmest driving you will find. Confirm the evening before over WhatsApp. Should a flight move while you are away, let us know and the pickup gets reworked rather than the original time being left to stand.
