One terminal covers the whole airport, laid out on the old Royal Docks between Canning Town and Woolwich, and you can walk from one end of the building to the other inside a couple of minutes. Compactness is the entire appeal of the place. The approach comes off the A13 and Silvertown Way, near enough to Canary Wharf that a car reaches the door within minutes of you telling us the wheels are down.
Small terminals make for simple meetings. Your chauffeur stands inside arrivals with a name board, a few steps from the point where you come out, and takes the bags off you there. No long march to a distant car park at the end of a bus route. Send us the flight number and we plan around the published arrival time, with an allowance for the short queues this airport is rightly known for.
Nowhere in London asks for less lead time on a departure, though the road in can still trip you up. At rush hour the Limehouse Link and the Blackwall approaches show no mercy, and one accident in either shuts the obvious route down completely. Your collection time is set by where you are actually staying rather than by a fixed rule, and the car is outside before that time, not on it.
Passengers arrive in a particular mix here: private travellers hopping across Europe, families connecting to an aircraft at a handler nearby, guests coming in for a weekend in town. Getting in and out of Docklands
One building holds everything here, and the arrivals area is small enough that a name board catches your eye the instant you come through. Bags turn up quickly, so wheels down to kerb often takes no more than a few minutes on a European flight. That speed is why people use the airport, and it is also why we ask for the flight number: there is very little margin for a car that arrives late.
The A13 brings road access in via Connaught Road, fed from the west by Silvertown Way and the Lower Lea Crossing. Pinch points are the river crossings and the Limehouse Link, both of which suffer badly at rush hour and both of which can shut altogether after an incident, with no obvious alternative left. User charges apply at the Blackwall and Silvertown crossings, and they are included in whatever we quote.
Straight outside the terminal is where set-down happens, a short walk from check-in, with a forecourt charge attached. Operating hours here are shorter than at the other London airports, so schedules bunch into early mornings and early evenings; a first departure usually means collecting you while the City is still empty, which makes for the easiest driving of the week. We pick that time from your address rather than from a standard allowance.
