Junction 5 of the M11 at Loughton is the gateway for almost everything from here, and it is a two-minute drive on a Sunday and a fifteen-minute one on a Tuesday morning. The A121 Epping New Road climbing through the forest is the pleasant route north and the one we prefer outside peak hours; the A104 Woodford New Road towards the Charlie Brown's roundabout is faster in theory and considerably less so between four and seven in the afternoon.

Forest roads deserve respect after dark.
