A typical London day might take in Westminster and the river early while the light is good, the parks and Kensington in the middle of the day, then Greenwich or the City in the late afternoon. He will happily point things out and answer questions, and if you want formal commentary and interior access to museums and monuments, we will suggest you engage a qualified guide and simply drive both of you.

The comfort argument is the strongest one. Sightseeing on foot in London means weather, queues and a great deal of walking between things that look close on a map and are not. With a car, coats and bags stay in the boot, a tired child can sleep between stops, and an afternoon downpour changes the plan rather than ending it.

Days run comfortably from four hours to a full day, and can extend beyond the city to Windsor, Oxford, Bath or Stonehenge. Tell us what you have already seen and roughly what interests you, and we will propose a route that flows geographically rather than criss-crossing the same district three times. Families with young children usually do better with a shorter morning and an early lunch, and we will say so rather than sell you the longer day.
