The A41 bypass is the reason Berkhamsted travels well. It runs as a fast dual carriageway from Tring down to the M25 at Junction 20, which puts Heathrow and the western side of London within reasonable reach. The unreliable stretch is where it meets the M25, since anything anticlockwise towards the M40 and M4 can back up sharply from mid-afternoon.
