Dual carriageway east to the A1 at Black Cat, dual carriageway west to the M1 at Junction 13: the A421 has changed what Bedford is connected to, and both the Midlands and Cambridge come out far more predictable than they once did. Inside the town nothing has changed. Traffic still funnels over the river at Town Bridge and at the Prebend Street bridge.
