Three junctions matter here. Junction 9 at the A11 is the quickest way north to Cambridge but is restricted in the directions it serves, junction 10 gives Duxford and the science parks, and junction 8 is the airport and Bishop's Stortford exit. Coming home from London, the M11 between junctions 6 and 8 is where the evening queue forms. Because the airport is so close, the temptation is to leave late. Bank holiday weekends, the weeks either side of Christmas, the summer wedding season and the university terms that begin and end together all fill quickly, and the further from London a journey runs, the earlier a car should be committed to it. Midweek travel in the shoulder months is the easiest thing in the world to arrange.
