Between the heath, the Great Park and the golf courses at Sunningdale and Wentworth, the tone is set: high hedges, long drives, a great deal of privacy. Guests come for race days, for weddings and dinners at the country houses round about, and for the corporate hospitality that fills the calendar from spring onwards. Others live here all year and want nothing more complicated than the airport handled properly. Round here, a car that arrives quietly counts for more than one that arrives noticeably.
Everything shifts on a race day. From mid morning the roads around the High Street, the A329 and the A330 fill up, marshals work the approaches, and setting down happens at appointed points rather than wherever suits you. We settle the drop and the pick up before the day, and we give every guest a precise meeting point for the walk back, since the moment the last race finishes the whole crowd leaves together. On an ordinary day, collections at the station or at a private house are unhurried and simple.
Heathrow lies near at hand, twenty five to fifty minutes as a rule, on the A329 and M25 or else the A30 through Egham. Gatwick works out at an hour to an hour and a half. Central London takes under the hour when the M4 and M3 are behaving themselves, and considerably longer when they are not. Windsor is fifteen minutes or thereabouts. Legoland and the Great Park sit on the doorstep, with Wentworth and Sunningdale only minutes away.

Race weeks and the Great Park
June brings Royal Ascot, and that week rearranges the whole area. Traffic management appears on the A329 and A332, the car parks fill early, and a journey that usually takes ten minutes can take three times as long in the hour before the first race, then again as the afternoon winds down. Our answer is a departure time set well ahead of the crowd, plus an exact spot agreed for the return, generally away from the main gates. Other fixtures through the year are busy, but far easier to handle.
With no racing on, two routes matter: the A332 Windsor road and the A329 through Sunninghill, and both take the weekday strain from the M3 and M4. Roads across the Great Park run narrow and unlit, shut to through traffic in places, so for a house on the Crown Estate or off the Wick Road we ask for gate details ahead of time. Spring golf at Wentworth generates congestion of its own along the A30 and A329 towards Virginia Water.

On a long journey, Britain's weather does more damage than its traffic ever will. Winter afternoons close in early, and that matters a great deal when the final leg is a single-track road. Highland and moorland routes can run substantially longer than any summer estimate suggests. Those allowances go into the timings from the start, rather than being discovered together halfway up a glen. Where a departure hour makes the schedule uncomfortable, we propose a better one.
Demand tracks the calendar closely. Bank holiday weekends fill fast, so do the weeks either side of Christmas, the summer wedding season and those university terms that all begin and end together. The further from London a journey runs, the sooner a car wants committing to it. Midweek travel in the shoulder months, by contrast, is the easiest thing in the world to arrange.

When a group is travelling together, we stagger the return in waves instead of shifting everyone at the same moment.
Twenty five to fifty minutes is the usual span, according to which terminal you need and what hour you are travelling. Through Royal Ascot week, and in the weekday peaks, we allow a good deal more than that. Better to wait inside the terminal than watch the clock on the A329.
They are, all sitting ten to fifteen minutes from Ascot, and we run to them constantly, as we do to Windsor and Bagshot. Private houses on the estates give us no trouble at all, provided the gate name and the postcode reach us before the day itself.

Touring itineraries running several days take us through the Cotswolds, the Lake District, Scotland and Wales.
