Greenwich sits on the south bank around the Old Royal Naval College, with the park climbing behind it to the Observatory and Blackheath spreading beyond. The Cutty Sark and the market fill the town centre with visitors; Crooms Hill and the streets towards Blackheath are quietly residential. To the north-east, the peninsula holds the arena and the newer riverside development. Our passengers are a mix of residents, concert-goers and visitors making a day of the park and the river.
The crossings define everything. The Blackwall Tunnel is the historic pinch point and the Silvertown crossing beside it has changed the northbound picture, though both queue in the peaks and both are tolled. The Greenwich foot tunnel is exactly that and takes no vehicles at all. Within the town, Greenwich Church Street and College Approach are narrow and thick with pedestrians, so we set down on Romney Road or the park side. Greenwich lies outside the congestion charge zone.
Event nights at the arena on the peninsula are the busiest work here, with several thousand cars trying to leave the same roads at the same moment, and the answer is always a collection point away from the immediate approaches. Otherwise the draws are the park and Observatory, the maritime buildings, the market, and the restaurants along the river towards Deptford. Blackheath adds village dining a short drive up the hill.
London City Airport is very close, typically 15 to 35 minutes depending on the crossing, which makes Greenwich a genuinely convenient base for European travel. Gatwick is usually 45 to 80 minutes down the A2 and M25. Heathrow is the long one at 60 to 100 minutes across the whole city. Central London runs 30 to 55 minutes via the Rotherhithe Tunnel or Tower Bridge, and considerably more when either is busy.

Tunnels, hills and the town
Within Greenwich itself the useful streets are the wider ones. King William Walk runs alongside the park and takes a car properly; Park Row drops from Romney Road towards the river; Nelson Road and the market lanes do not. Greenwich High Road carries everything through the town towards Deptford, and Creek Road crosses a lifting bridge that can stop traffic without warning, which is a good reason not to leave a departure to the last five minutes.
The park is not a shortcut. Its internal roads are restricted and the gates close around dusk, so a collection at the Observatory means meeting at a gate rather than at the top. Blackheath above it is a different proposition entirely: the heath roads are open and quick, Tranquil Vale and the village streets have limited standing room, and the A2 across the heath is the fastest way south-east out of the area.
Hours matter as much as geography here. The northbound crossings load from early morning and stay heavy until mid-morning, then reverse in the evening. The town is busiest in the middle of the day at weekends, when the market fills every approach and the riverside is effectively pedestrian. Late evening is quiet almost everywhere, and a car crosses the peninsula in a fraction of the time the same journey takes at six.

Timing & Availability
When to arrange it
Two things drive availability in Greenwich: the events calendar on the peninsula and the marathon weekend in spring. Cars are committed early for both, and larger vehicles for groups go first of all. For an ordinary weekday transfer, short notice is usually workable, and an early departure to London City can often be arranged the day before.
Timings are quoted with the crossings in mind. A journey north at eight in the morning is not the same journey at eleven, and we would rather set a realistic collection time than a flattering one.
