Covent Garden runs from Long Acre and Seven Dials down to the Strand, with the market building and the piazza at its centre and the opera house on Bow Street beside it. It is one of the few parts of central London genuinely busy at every hour, and the theatres along Drury Lane, Aldwych and the Strand keep it that way until well past eleven. Our passengers are mostly here for a performance, dinner beforehand, or both in a tightly timed sequence.

The piazza itself is pedestrianised and the streets around it are narrow, heavily loaded and often blocked by deliveries. Wellington Street, Tavistock Street and Bow Street offer the practical set-downs, and Southampton Street runs down towards the Strand where a car can pull in. On a performance night the streets immediately around the opera house are best avoided at curtain-down, so we position on the Strand or Kingsway side instead. Covent Garden sits inside the congestion charge zone.

What people travel here for is unusually specific: the opera house on Bow Street, the theatres of Drury Lane and the Aldwych, dinner beforehand in the streets around Seven Dials, and the shops of Floral Street, Neal Street and Monmouth Street during the day. Curtain-up is not negotiable, which is why we build the journey backwards from it rather than forwards from your front door, and allow for the Strand behaving badly.

Getting out afterwards is the part that catches people. The Strand and Aldwych clear slowly once a performance ends, so we route east towards the City or north via Kingsway depending on where you are going. Heathrow from Covent Garden is typically 50 to 85 minutes and Gatwick 60 to 100. London City is close, usually 30 to 55 minutes. St Pancras and the Eurostar are ten to twenty minutes north, which suits an early continental departure.

Why Luxury Chauffeurs

Why Clients Choose Us for Covent Garden

  • 01

    Positioned before the bows

Your chauffeur is standing on an agreed street while the final act is still running, so you leave with the pavement rather than behind it.

  • 02

    Off the pedestrian grid

The piazza and the lanes around Seven Dials take no vehicles. We name the nearest street that legally works and send you the exact spot in writing.

  • 03

    Dinner and performance together

Restaurant, theatre and home run on a single arrangement, so the gap between courses and curtain never becomes a scramble for a car on the Strand.

  • 04

    Onward to St Pancras

A performance one evening and a continental departure the next morning are handled as one plan, with the same chauffeur and cases already loaded.

At a Glance

Covent Garden

  • Built backwards from curtain-up

We plan the journey around the performance time, not the other way round, and allow for the Strand.

  • Set-downs off the piazza

Wellington Street, Tavistock Street and Southampton Street — points a car can genuinely reach.

  • After the applause

The chauffeur is in position before the house empties, so you move while the pavement is still full.

Local Knowledge

Reaching the piazza by car

Covent Garden is best understood as a pedestrian island with a ring road around it. James Street, Neal Street and the lanes radiating from the Seven Dials roundel are effectively closed to traffic through the day. Henrietta Street, King Street and Maiden Lane are narrow and given over to loading. The practical approach is from the ring — Bedford Street, Garrick Street and Endell Street — rather than any attempt to reach the market itself.

The southern edge has changed. Part of the Strand beside Somerset House has been given to pedestrians, which pushes eastbound traffic round the Aldwych crescent and makes the approach to Waterloo Bridge slower than the map suggests. Catherine Street and Russell Street are the closest streets to the Drury Lane houses, and both jam solid within minutes of a performance ending. Kingsway and Lancaster Place are the reliable ways out.

The district runs on two clocks. Market deliveries and the first tourists have the streets to themselves before ten; matinee days, most often midweek and Saturday, put a second crush into the middle of the afternoon. Evening performances release within a narrow window either side of ten, and an opera can run considerably later. WC2 lies inside the central charging zone, which we settle within the arrangement rather than leaving it to you.

Four Steps

How Booking Works

Chauffeur booking with us is a conversation rather than a checkout. Every journey is priced individually.

  1. 01

    Tell us the journey

Send the date, the addresses and the shape of the day on WhatsApp, or use the journey planner. There is no obligation and no card details are taken to get a price.

  2. 02

    We quote in writing

You receive a written quotation covering the vehicle, the timings and everything included — no estimates that move later, and no surge pricing.

  3. 03

    The car is held

On confirmation a vehicle and a named professional chauffeur are assigned to your date, and the terms are put in writing.

  4. 04

    Your chauffeur arrives

Briefed on the route, the access and the waiting arrangements before the day, so nothing is decided at the kerb.

Corporate & Business

Corporate entertaining in WC2

The offices along Kingsway, Aldwych and the edges of Lincoln's Inn Fields put a great deal of legal and professional work within a few minutes of the theatres. Much of our weekday travel here is unglamorous and precise: a partner moved between two meetings, a client collected from a hotel, a bundle of papers carried securely between buildings while its owner walks.

Client entertaining is the other half. Where a firm is hosting before a performance, guests are collected from their own addresses and delivered within a few minutes of one another, which is far harder to arrange than it sounds on a Wednesday at six. Accounts can be set up so that individual guests never see a payment, and one person holds the whole evening.

Who We Drive

Who Travels with Us for Covent Garden

  • Opera and ballet regulars

Subscribers who attend often enough to know precisely how badly Bow Street behaves at curtain-down, and who would rather not stand in it.

  • Families at the matinee

Parents bringing children to an afternoon performance, with the walk from a legal set-down measured in metres rather than several blocks.

  • Anniversary evenings

Couples marking something particular, who want the car, the table and the seats to feel like one arrangement rather than three separate errands.

  • Corporate hosts

Firms entertaining clients before a performance, where guests are collected individually and delivered to the same address within minutes of each other.

Events & Occasions

Performance nights and celebrations

An evening here has an unusually rigid centre and soft edges. Dinner is flexible, the drink afterwards is flexible, the seven-thirty is not. We work outward from the fixed point, allowing for the fact that the last mile into WC2 is often slower than the ten before it, and we would rather collect you early than apologise at the door.

Birthdays, proposals and the December pantomime run are all handled the same way, with the difference that groups need more than one vehicle and someone has to keep them together. Flowers, coats and anything that should not be carried through a crowded foyer stay with the car. Afterwards nobody negotiates for a taxi on a wet Aldwych — the chauffeur is already standing where you were told.

Timing & Availability

Seasons and lead times

The theatre calendar decides availability far more than the weather does. Press nights, opening weeks and the whole of December are the pressure points, and Boxing Day through to early January is the busiest stretch of the year for performance travel. Saturday evenings book out first. Midweek in late January or February is usually straightforward at a few days' notice.

Send the performance, the venue and where you are coming from, and the collection time comes back with the reasoning attached rather than as a bare number. If a table at seven and a curtain at half past seven cannot both work, we will tell you which one to move. New Year's Eve needs planning weeks ahead, because the road closures around the Strand are extensive.

Professional Chauffeur Standards

The Standard We Hold

What a premium chauffeur service should mean in practice, rather than in a brochure.

  • Vetted professional chauffeurs

Every chauffeur is licensed, insured and vetted before they drive for us. They are briefed on your journey in advance and dressed for the occasion.

  • Discretion by default

Vehicles carry no branding. Your chauffeur speaks when spoken to, and what is discussed in the back of the car stays there.

  • Immaculate vehicles

Current-generation cars, valeted before every journey, with still water and charging in the rear compartment.

  • One point of contact

The same person handles your enquiry, your quotation and your booking, so nothing is explained twice.
