Most journeys out of the town reach the M25 through junction eleven at Chertsey, which queues northbound from about seven in the morning, worse still when the A320 through Ottershaw is busy. Prolonged improvement works have made junction ten at Wisley an uncertain proposition, so for airport runs we favour the A320 route instead. Southbound the A3 towards Guildford moves quickly enough, then slows sharply at the Burpham and Ripley junctions in the evening.

The further from London a journey runs, the sooner a car wants committing to it. Midweek travel in the shoulder months, by contrast, is the easiest thing in the world to arrange.
