The absence of a road bridge at Teddington Lock quietly determines every route out of town. Anything heading for Kingston, Surbiton or the A3 goes south through Hampton Wick and over Kingston Bridge, which is slow from mid-morning, while anything heading north crosses at Richmond, which is slower still through the evening.
