Traffic here moves in one direction far more easily than the other, and the New Kent Road and Newington Causeway arms are the ones that fail first in the evening. Approaching from the south on Walworth Road is usually cleaner than coming down London Road from Waterloo. The bus lanes are extensive and enforced through the day, which narrows the options for a car considerably and makes the set-down point worth agreeing beforehand.

Cycle lanes now run through much of the junction, and the segregated sections mean a car cannot simply pull in where it once could. For a collection from the university or the shopping development we use the designated set-down points and wait off site until you are ready. Early mornings are the exception: before half past six the whole junction is empty and a run to any airport starts easily.

London traffic is predictable enough to plan around and too variable to ignore. Weekday mornings into the centre and the long crawl outward from four until seven are the two windows that reshape a schedule, and we quote timings that reflect them rather than a mapping application on a quiet Sunday. Evening runs and weekends are considerably freer, and airport legs are the ones most worth padding.

Availability in the capital is deeper than anywhere else in the country, so short-notice requests are frequently workable, even the same day. The exceptions are the obvious ones: December evenings, the days of a major sporting or state occasion, and any Saturday in the wedding season. For those, book when the date is set rather than when the week finally arrives.
