A full house at the Stadium of Light empties onto Millennium Way and the roads towards the Wearmouth Bridge within about fifteen minutes, and nothing moves quickly afterwards. Our approach is to set down close before the crowd builds and collect from a fixed point south of the river, usually near the station or Keel Square, so you walk five minutes and drive away rather than sitting in it. Concert nights behave the same way, only later.

Sunderland's rail connection to London runs via Newcastle or, on the direct service, into King's Cross in around three and a half hours. That matters, because the drive is five to six hours and a same-day return leaves nothing in reserve if a meeting overruns. We are happy to arrange the road journey when it is genuinely the right answer, but we will usually suggest an overnight and a chauffeur waiting at both ends instead.

Britain's weather does more to a long journey than its traffic does. Winter afternoons close in early, which matters when the last leg is a single-track road, and Highland and moorland routes can take substantially longer than a summer estimate suggests. We build that into the timings rather than discovering it together, and where a departure hour makes a schedule uncomfortable we will suggest a better one.

Demand follows the calendar. Bank holiday weekends, the weeks either side of Christmas, the summer wedding season and the university terms that begin and end together all fill quickly, and the further from London a journey runs, the earlier a car should be committed to it. Midweek travel in the shoulder months is the easiest thing in the world to arrange.
