Some eighteen miles north-west of Belfast, near Aldergrove, the airport is reached by the A57 and then the M2. Of the city's two airport drives this is the longer, and in darkness or heavy rain it is no road to hurry along. Your chauffeur builds that into both directions, so the timing holds for a departure at six and for a landing close to midnight alike.
Collections are simple with one terminal to work from. In the arrivals hall your chauffeur holds a name board, then carries the luggage out to the car. Linking the airport to the M2 at Templepatrick is the A57, and the motorway beyond it carries the Belfast commute; the A26 heads north towards Ballymena and Coleraine; the A6 comes across from Derry. In heavy rain or fog, not one of them is a road for making up time.
Away from the city, ground transport thins out in a hurry, which explains why so much of what we do here is the onward leg rather than the airport itself. The north coast, the Glens, Enniskillen and the Mournes each involve a proper drive, and Dublin Airport is a familiar cross-border run whenever the schedule down there suits you better. Early departures go in the small hours. At that time the M2 hands you the journey the map promised, rather than the one the rush hour serves up.

Busiest of all are the July fortnight, the weeks bracketing Christmas, and the summer wedding season, when Saturdays disappear first and the larger vehicles go before anything else does. A big event on the north coast can strip the region of available cars for an entire weekend. Beyond those spells availability holds up well, and a short-notice request midweek is usually met without fuss.
The hour is seldom the difficulty. Charters land late and depart early, and a collection at either extreme counts as normal work rather than a favour granted. What helps us is knowing the destination when you first enquire, because a run out to Enniskillen or Portrush wants a very different collection time from one into central Belfast.
