Wimbledon divides clearly in two. The Village sits at the top of the hill around the High Street and the Common, all Georgian frontages and long views; the town centre lies at the bottom around the Broadway and the station, busier and more commercial. Church Road runs between them past the tennis grounds. Our passengers are residents for most of the year and visitors for a fortnight in summer, and the two require completely different planning.
During the championships the roads around Church Road, Somerset Road and Marryat Road operate under residents-only restrictions and managed set-down arrangements, and the surrounding streets slow to a crawl from mid-morning. Outside the fortnight, Wimbledon Hill Road is the main climb and queues at school times, the Village High Street offers very limited stopping, and the roads across the Common are unlit and narrow at night. Wimbledon sits outside the congestion charge zone and inside the ultra low emission zone.
The tennis is the obvious draw, and it is worth saying plainly what a chauffeur adds: a set-down as close as the restrictions allow, no parking search at either end, and a car that comes back for you whenever play finishes, which on a five-set evening is not a time anybody can predict. The rest of the year, journeys are village dinners, theatre in town, the golf courses on the Common's edge, and school and station runs.
The A3 is the road that defines Wimbledon's connections. Heathrow is typically 35 to 60 minutes via the A3 and M25 or the A316. Gatwick runs 45 to 75 minutes, which is unusually good for a London address. Central London is 30 to 60 minutes up the A24 or through Putney. For the south coast, Goodwood or a day at a Surrey ground, Wimbledon is a comfortable and quick starting point.

Reading Wimbledon street by street
The town centre gathers around the Broadway, where the station brings together rail, the District line and the tram under one roof. Its approach is narrow and generally full of taxis, so we prefer to meet a few steps away on Hartfield Road or Alexandra Road, where a car can stand without obstructing anyone. The Broadway itself is bus-heavy through the day, and the theatre at its eastern end empties in one movement when a performance ends.
Above the town, Parkside runs along the eastern edge of the Common from Tibbet's Corner down towards the Village, and it is the approach we use when the Hill Road is queuing. The Village end offers very little standing room of its own, so a chauffeur will usually hold on one of the residential turnings off the Ridgway and come forward when you message. Southside Common and West Side Common carry almost no through traffic, which makes them a useful holding position on a busy evening.
During the championships the whole district reorganises itself. The approach roads fill from mid-morning, Southfields becomes the busier station and the queue that forms in Wimbledon Park has its own rhythm of arrival. We plan collections from the town side rather than the grounds, since a short walk downhill is quicker than a car inching along Church Road. Play can run late on the show courts, so the evening collection is agreed as a place rather than a time.

Wimbledon works as a base for people whose diaries are in town but whose homes are not. A car from the door means the working day starts on the A24 or the A3 rather than on a platform at the Broadway, and the back of a saloon takes a call that a carriage cannot. For a full day of meetings we would usually hold the car by the hour and let the schedule move as it will.
Corporate hospitality in early summer is the other half of the picture. Guests arrive from several directions, need collecting in ones and twos, and have to reach the same place within a narrow window. When to book Wimbledon
The summer fortnight is the one period where early arrangement genuinely matters. Cars in SW19 are committed weeks ahead for those two weeks, and the days with the largest crowds go first. If you know your dates, even loosely, tell us early and we will hold the shape of the booking while the finer details settle into place.
Outside those weeks the picture is relaxed. Midweek journeys can often be arranged at short notice, and an early airport run rarely presents a problem. School terms shape the mornings here more than anything else, so a nine o'clock departure from the Village behaves quite differently in August from the way it behaves in October. We will say which when we quote.
