Everybody recognises the shape of an arena evening. Doors a couple of hours beforehand, a support act, a headline set of ninety minutes or thereabouts, then an encore, after which the whole building attempts to leave through four exits at once. The big outdoor shows in the parks recreate that same problem, only outdoors and in the dark. Music is the easy part of the evening to plan.

Two of the worst moments a chauffeur takes away entirely. Rather than the far end of a car park, you are set down close to your entrance; rather than joining the queue for the barrier afterwards, you walk to an agreed street where the car already sits. Would you sooner not be first out? Your driver holds, then collects you twenty minutes later, once the roads have had a breath.

Kerb space immediately outside a large venue is nearly always restricted, which puts set-down and collection points a short, well-lit walk away; your chauffeur confirms exactly where before you get there. Decide beforehand whether you want to slip out before the final song or sit the crowd out, since both work perfectly well but each needs a different plan. And where the show sits a long way from home, that drive back in a quiet car after a loud night is the real luxury.

Friends travel best in a V-Class, six of them able to talk the whole way home with nobody having drawn the short straw. A couple does well in an S-Class or a BMW i7, which comes close to silent after three hours standing beside a speaker stack. Heading out to an arena in another city, the S-Class makes the return leg feel considerably shorter than it actually is.
