An arena evening has a shape everyone recognises: doors a couple of hours before, a support act, a headline set of ninety minutes or so, then an encore after which the entire building tries to leave through four exits at the same time. Large outdoor shows in the parks reproduce the same problem outdoors and in the dark. The music is the easy part of the evening to plan.

A chauffeur removes the two worst moments. You are set down close to your entrance rather than at the far end of a car park, and at the end you walk to an agreed street where the car is already waiting, instead of joining the queue for the barrier. If you would rather not be first out, your driver simply holds and collects you twenty minutes later, once the roads have breathed.

Most large venues restrict the kerb immediately outside, so set-down and collection points are usually a short, well-lit walk away and are confirmed by your chauffeur before you arrive. Decide in advance whether you want to leave before the final song or wait out the crowd, because both work but they need different plans. And if the show is a long way from home, the drive back in a quiet car after a loud night is the real luxury.

Groups of friends travel best in a V-Class, where six people can talk on the way home and nobody has drawn the short straw. A couple is well served by an S-Class or a BMW i7, which is close to silent after three hours spent standing beside a speaker stack. For a run out to an arena in another city, the S-Class makes the return leg considerably shorter than it is.
