Nobody arrives here for the architecture, and we shall not pretend otherwise. Concentration is what Slough offers: a remarkable number of corporate headquarters on the Trading Estate alone, and a position between Heathrow and the Thames Valley corridor with unusually good access to each. Corporate work accounts for very nearly every journey we run here, and nearly all of them are judged on whether the car arrived when it said it would.
Practically speaking, it is all quite simple. Collections come from the station and the hotels along the Bath Road, guests go into the Trading Estate and the offices around Buckingham Avenue, and there is the constant airport shuttle any stay here involves. Meetings start early, so collection times follow what the M4 genuinely does at that hour, not what some mapping application hopefully proposes.
What compensates for Slough lies entirely in the surroundings. Ten minutes south are Windsor and the Castle, Eton just over the river, and Burnham Beeches immediately north for anyone wanting an hour among proper trees. West along the Thames run Cliveden, Marlow and Henley, while Ascot is twenty minutes off when the racing is on and the town empties in that direction.
Remarkably close is Heathrow, fifteen to twenty-five minutes as a rule, according to the terminal and the traffic round Colnbrook. From central London the M4 generally asks forty-five minutes to an hour and a quarter. Slough is reached directly by the Elizabeth line from Paddington, and a good number of guests use it, then keep a car for the working day.

Slough, the M4 and the terminals
Reckon on fifteen to twenty-five minutes for the Heathrow terminals, remembering that Terminal 5 and Terminal 4 do not amount to the same journey. Getting there means picking between the Colnbrook and Poyle roads and the motorway, and on a bad morning each of those fails at its own particular time. Behind all this, town is divided up between M4 Junctions 5, 6 and 7, with the A4 Bath Road running alongside the lot of them.
Round the centre of town the ring road is quick and entirely unforgiving of a missed exit, while the station sits on the main line out of Paddington with the Elizabeth line calling as well. A fair number of guests come out by train and pick a car up here for the working day. Hotels along the Bath Road stand back behind service roads, which makes the entrance count for far more than the postcode ever does.
A paragraph of its own is the least the Trading Estate deserves. By any measure the site is very large, entered from the Bath Road side or the Farnham Road side and laid out along avenues where one building repeats the last. Security barriers, visitor registration and goods entrances between them slow down an arrival that looked perfectly simple on paper. So we confirm the exact gate and building beforehand, and the chauffeur waits wherever waiting is actually permitted.

Windsor is minutes south if you want dinner, Eton sits across the water, and the beeches to the north turn properly beautiful come autumn. Stoke Poges, Burnham and the villages running towards Beaconsfield hold the kind of country pub a visiting team remembers long after the meeting itself has gone.
Proper occasions mean Ascot in June and Henley in July, both of which pull the town's visitors away south and west, with the roads responding accordingly. Dorney Lake, Black Park and the Chiltern edge each make an easy half day. Corporate entertaining is common round here, and it usually amounts to several cars going out in the afternoon and a staggered return very late at night.

Weekly, rather than seasonal, is the rhythm here. Monday mornings and Thursday evenings carry the pressure, along with the long-haul arrivals landing before dawn and the early European departures wanting collection while it is still dark outside. Those slots are limited and they go first, so a regular pattern is best fixed a long way in advance of it.
Availability tightens right across the corridor for Ascot week in June, for the school holidays, and for the fortnight before Christmas. Away from those, midweek short notice is usually possible.
