Three junctions of the M1 serve the city, 39, 40 and 41, but the place that settles most journeys is Lofthouse, just north, where the M62 crosses. It queues through both peaks, and one incident there tips traffic onto the A61 and A650 within minutes. Usual alternatives are the A638 towards Dewsbury and the A61 into Leeds, while the outer ring road moves quicker than it looks once the school run is done.
