On most flights, passport control and reclaim here move quicker than they would at a hub, though a full aircraft landing alongside another can stretch that wait noticeably. Close to the doors, drop-off runs on a keep-moving basis, which makes the handover deliberately short. It is the roads that repay some thought. Out of Leeds the usual line is the A65 and up through Horsforth; from Harrogate the A658 comes across the top; from Bradford the climb goes via Guiseley. Each of the three narrows to single carriageway somewhere along its length, and one stalled lorry rewrites the arithmetic entirely.
Where this airport truly earns a chauffeur is in the journeys on either side of the flight. York, the Dales and the North York Moors are all straightforward from the terminal, and the drive across to Manchester Airport is one we make regularly for guests whose route exists only from there. Winter mornings deserve their own note. Frost lies on the tops well after the city has thawed, so a six o'clock departure gets collected earlier than the distance by itself would suggest.
