The airport is reached by A-roads rather than motorway, climbing out of Leeds through Horsforth or up from Bradford by way of Guiseley, and it stands high enough to catch weather the cities below never see. Passport control and reclaim here move faster than at a hub on most flights, though a full aircraft arriving alongside another can push the wait out noticeably. Drop-off is close to the doors and works on a keep-moving basis, so the handover is deliberately brief. The roads are the part that repays thought. From Leeds the usual line is the A65 and up through Horsforth; from Harrogate the A658 comes across the top; from Bradford the climb runs via Guiseley. All three are single-carriageway in places, and one stalled lorry changes the arithmetic completely.
Where this airport really earns a chauffeur is on the journeys either side of it. York, the Dales and the North York Moors are all straightforward from the terminal, and the drive to Manchester Airport is one we make regularly for guests whose route only exists from there.
