Old Street at one corner, Hoxton Square in the middle, Bishopsgate along the edge, and inside that boundary sit studios, agencies, galleries, restaurants and hotels that do not properly fill until after nine. Dinner and theatre evenings bring us in. So do production days, where a car holds still for hours and then moves in short bursts. Then there are the early departures, booked by guests who picked this postcode over the West End on purpose.
Curtain Road, Rivington Street, Redchurch Street: all narrow, all thick with people on foot once it gets dark, and all lined with delivery bays, which rules out leaving a car standing there at night. Wider approaches take the set-down instead, generally Great Eastern Street, Shoreditch High Street or Commercial Street, and if walking the final few metres is easier your chauffeur does exactly that. With the congestion charge boundary drawn so close, any charge arising sits inside the quotation.
Take the A13, or the A11 and Aspen Way, and London City comes in around 25 to 45 minutes. Heathrow sits at 50 to 85 minutes, with the M4 doing most of the deciding. Night hours and narrow streets
Visitors rarely see the evening restrictions coming. Come Friday and Saturday night, several streets near Rivington and Curtain Road are shut outright or so choked they may as well be, and with that many people walking, a kerbside pickup outside a bar stops being realistic. So the meeting point gets agreed at the start. Usually a corner on Great Eastern Street, or the top end of Curtain Road, where your chauffeur waits instead of inching through a crowd.
Early City starts flip the whole picture on its head. Before seven, few roads carry you into the Square Mile faster than Shoreditch High Street and Bishopsgate, and Old Street is calm enough to enjoy. Once eight has come and gone, looping round on the A1202 and coming at it from Aldgate is quicker. North and east, the A10 and Hackney Road behave impeccably ahead of the school run and rather badly for the hour or so that follows. Worth knowing before you agree to a breakfast meeting.

Our quoted timings reflect those, not what a mapping application shows on a quiet Sunday. Evening runs and weekends open up considerably by comparison. Airport legs are the ones most worth padding.
