Belgrave Road and its Golden Mile would justify the trip by themselves, and the rest of the city carries more layers than most visitors expect. Roman remains sit alongside a cathedral now telling the story of Richard III, the market has traded on the same ground for centuries, and on a Saturday afternoon the King Power keeps the whole place loud. A working, sociable city, and one that rarely feels crowded for all of that.
A short run separates the station from the centre, though the ring road makes it feel a good deal further. Hotels around New Walk and the Highcross quarter we handle, along with the university and hospital sites, the King Power on matchdays when the streets around it close, and those distribution and engineering parks out towards Meridian that no taxi ever seems eager to find on a wet evening.
East of the city, Rutland Water and the stone towns of Uppingham and Oakham make an unhurried day. Just past them sits Stamford, arguably the prettiest small town in England, with Burghley House at its edge. Market Harborough, Bradgate Park and the Charnwood villages all lie within half an hour, and when the weather behaves, Warwick and Stratford are an easy run west along the A46.
Twenty to thirty minutes north west sits East Midlands Airport, which covers most short-haul needs, while Birmingham is around fifty minutes off for long-haul. From London the M1 runs direct, two to three hours as a rule, according to the Northampton stretch. Trains from St Pancras are quick, and a car outside saves you crossing the ring road with luggage.

Leicester roads and the M1
Junctions 21, 21a and 22 are the three that serve the city, and every one of them puts you on a different side, while the M69 branches off for Coventry and the A46 curves round to the west. Within all that, most of the work falls to the A563 outer ring and the central ring road. One-way stretches near the middle mean a hotel can stay in plain sight for several minutes before you actually reach the door.
On London Road the station sits a short run from the middle and hard against the ring road itself, so its forecourt fills in no time and a fixed meeting point, agreed beforehand, repays the small effort of setting it up. Head into the centre and Highcross and the market streets are pedestrian, while New Walk is residential, which cuts the waiting options down to a handful of workable spots. Where a clean air or access charge applies to the vehicle you have booked, it is priced into the quotation and confirmed at the time of booking.
North west of here, East Midlands Airport is generally twenty to thirty-five minutes away depending on how the M1 is behaving, with Birmingham at around fifty minutes when the route counts for more. The real work is the last mile. Meridian Business Park, Grove Park at Enderby, Optimus Point and the enormous distribution sheds at Magna Park all sit among roundabouts that defeat most visiting drivers. From London the M1 runs direct, typically two to three hours, and whether you get a good run or a poor one is usually settled long before you reach Leicestershire.

Evenings, sport and Diwali
People here eat well and eat late, and on a warm evening Belgrave Road must be one of the few streets in England where finding a table is easier than finding a parking space. Diwali brings very large crowds to it and closes the roads for the evening, which makes that a night for being dropped and collected rather than for driving yourself. Curve and De Montfort Hall look after the rest of the calendar.
Weddings here run large, frequently across several days, and very often with a procession of cars that has to arrive in a set order at a set minute. We work those backwards from the ceremony, and where the venue is rural we drive the route beforehand. Rugby afternoons at Welford Road and football at the King Power end the same way, with a collection point placed a comfortable walk from the ground.

When Leicester books up
Most Saturdays go to the wedding season, which runs from spring through to early autumn, and the autumn festival period around Diwali is the busiest single stretch the city has all year.
