An active Royal Air Force station in west London, Northolt also takes a limited number of civil business aviation movements when arranged well beforehand. Position is what draws people to it: by road it lies closer to central London than any other airfield handling private aircraft, and that counts for a great deal when the alternative involves an hour on a motorway. Alongside civil charter, the traffic takes in government and diplomatic movements.
Planning is mostly about access. Being a military site with controlled entry, it normally wants vehicle and driver details submitted beforehand, and every part of that sits at the station's discretion. The road approach comes in off the A40 Western Avenue and West End Road, over in the Ruislip and South Ruislip area. Leaving the West End, forty minutes to an hour is typical; from the City it takes longer, and the A40 running back into town is genuinely slow through the morning peak. Anyone arriving from the north or the west has the M25 close at hand. As ever, we work to the times your operator confirms rather than to tracking of our own.
Onward legs usually head into central London, out towards Buckinghamshire and the Chilterns, or west along the M40 in the direction of Oxford. Slots and permissions being limited here, plans shift more often than at a purely civil field, so collection arrangements stay flexible and we keep talking to whoever is co-ordinating your flight. Crew vehicles and a second car for the luggage go on the same arrangement as yours.
