Under the bridge, four roads come together: Holloway Road up from the south, Junction Road across from Kentish Town, Highgate Hill going west and uphill, and Archway Road heading north as the A1. Right at the junction everything feels busy and workaday. Walk two or three minutes, though, and you reach the terraces below Dartmouth Park and the calmer Victorian streets off St John's Grove. Most of our passengers here are residents, people visiting the hospital, or families setting off north for a weekend.
Steep, pinched at the top and dotted with bus stops, Highgate Hill is a bad place to stand with suitcases. Archway Road runs through a cutting under the bridge and gives you almost no usable kerb, whatever the hour. Our chauffeurs use Macdonald Road, Cressida Road or one of the residential turnings off Junction Road instead, where a large saloon can sit without getting in anybody's way. Controlled parking covers most of N19 on weekdays, so the wait gets planned in advance rather than improvised on the day.
The A1 gets properly under way at this point, which makes northbound runs unusually clean. Luton is commonly 40 to 65 minutes; Stansted sits nearer 60 to 90 by way of the North Circular and the M11. Heathrow is the awkward one at 60 to 95 minutes as a rule, and we would leave a good while before you think it needed. Down Holloway Road into central London takes 25 to 45 minutes, any applicable charge already folded into your quotation.

Which way to climb from Archway
Route choice comes down to the clock, nothing else. Before eight, Archway Road flows north without trouble and the whole A1 is yours; later than that, the tailback from the Highgate junctions can stretch as far as the bridge. Highgate Hill looks like a shortcut on paper. Bus routes and the hospital entrance keep it crawling through the middle of the day. Coming up from town, we tend to stay on Holloway Road rather than threading the narrow one-ways around Tufnell Park.
Afternoons here belong to the schools rather than the offices. From about half past three the streets between Junction Road and Dartmouth Park Hill tighten up, and on Sundays visitors to Highgate Cemetery take every space along Swain's Lane and the top of the hill. Early airport departures we handle from your door, not the main road. The car arrives a few minutes before the agreed time and waits with the engine off until you are ready to go.
